INTRODUCTION

Through my Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program, I have collaborated, created, and reflected on various assignments and projects. On this page, you will find a few highlights of my work showcased in two categories: creativity and research. I felt that through MAET, those were the two main themes of my assignments and projects. The work that is showcased in the creativity group are those that were created with my own creativity, with a few even being on the topic of creativity. The work in the research category are those that required some digging and outside learning in order to complete. The research was done through readings, video watching, and observations. CREATIVITY

I had the privilege of completing a majority of my program in a hybrid setting, which means it was half online and half face-to-face. In the face-to-face part of the program, my colleagues and I had to plan and put on a Maker Faire in one week. With so many challenges, my partner Laura Allen and I planned a Three Little Pigs themed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activity. The planning document and lesson plan are linked at the bottom of the blog post that details the ins and outs of the Maker Faire.

After reading some articles about classroom design, I created my ideal classroom space using the design program SketchUp. I had never used anything like SketchUp before, so to say that I was frustrated at the beginning is an understatement. However, once I got familiar with the program, I had a great time creating my ideal flexible learning environment. I learned that younger children respond well to cooler colors, so I even took some of the ideas that I had learned about color schemes and seating choices and incorporated them into my own, real-life classroom.

I read the article "Epic Fails: Reconceptualizing Failure as a Catalyst for Developing Creative Persistence within Teaching and Learning Experiences" by Shauna Smith. Then, created a low-technology video summarizing the three main points, three implications in the classroom in under three minutes. Not only does this video showcase my creativity within given constraints, it also shows my ability to record and edit videos. 

I feel that it is important to also showcase the growth and changes that I've made throughout my MAET journey. As one of my first attempts in putting together and editing a video, I am proud of the growth in my abilities. Early on in the program, this was my reflection of my teaching philosophy. I took a creative spin and wrote it as a rhyming poem. However, as I've learned and grown as a learner, so has my philosophy as an educator. I have added onto my philosophy, which can be found here

RESEARCH

I learned how to create Industrial Pipe Shelves through internet research. I watched various YouTube videos and read articles in order to learn how to cut pipes, sand and stain wood, and assemble my shelves. My blog post details the steps I took with videos and written directions to help you make your own!

Based on my research of the learning theories: Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and the Situative Perspective, I presented my reflections using a Prezi. I reflected on what each theory means, the connections in my classroom, and my thoughts on each one. This project really helped me to be reflective of myself as a learner and as a teacher.

I carried out extensive research on the topic of integrating technology into schools. I read about the reasons that teachers are hesitant to integrate technology into their classes, and what can be done in order to help teachers integrate technology in their daily instruction. I wrote a detailed paper on the research that I came across on the topic.

My colleagues and I did field research at the Tinkrlab Summer Camp in Lansing, MI to observe kids at various STEM stations. Kristine Tischler, Alex Gorton, Laura Allen and I asked the question "How do participants respond to failure at this station?" We observed groups of kids at a coding activity and looked at the number of attempts, time spent at the station and if they took on a challenge. We created this Google Slides presentation of our experience and findings.
